Follow The Science

Football is one of America’s most treasured traditional sports, but it is also one of America’s most violent games when it comes to playing in the NFL. The hard hits that happen during the natural course of a career can have lasting effects on players. Some damage is done physically but the most dangerous damage is done mentally for instance a long term brain injury known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), has been linked to the suicides of football stars Junior Seau and Dave Duerson.

Marvin Washington joins a group of former players who are urging the league and its union to explore cannabis(CBD) as a solution to two problems that endanger the future of pro football: traumatic brain injuries and painkiller addiction. “One of my goals is to get cannabis accepted by the athletic community,” says Washington. “The NFL has a safety issue and it needs to look at this plant. The NFL needs to follow the science. I don’t want to kill football, I want to make it safer – with marijuana.”

Washington is not only tackling the CBD industry but he is also breaking ground for diversity in the cannabis industry. “I’m not talking about affirmative action, I’m talking about a level playing field. I don’t want set-asides, I want inclusion” says Washington.

Vaporizing cannabidiol(CBD) has been a means of medicating for Washington in the past to help ease aches and pains from the 11 seasons he spent in the NFL. These days he uses CBD drops and CBD-infused water to battle muscle soreness and inflammation. He’s also become an invaluable resource for former professional athletes seeking help for chronic pain, depression and other long-term health problems.

“I just want people to follow the science,” Washington says. “I don’t want to have a debate with you if you say it is against your ideology or religion. I just want people to follow the science.”
